It has been seen that people may come and go in a particular company but others may stay long and loyal even upto the point of their retirement.Some people may leave early even in a couple of years for different reasons. So,the ultimate objective of this study is to explore the needs and importance of training and development for gsk and Merk to retain their employees.However due to big size of the pharmaceutical industry,GSK and MERK are one of the leading companies in the industry of Pakistan have been chosen.

GSK,was established in early 18th century, gsk is a research based company GSK, is one of the industry leaders. GSK, employs around 99,000 people in over 100 countries. Over 15,000 people work in research teams to discover new medicines. GSK, produces medicines in six major diseae areas, in addition to this GSK, is also leader for vaccines and developing new treatments for cancer as well.

Merck (Private) Limited, has been present in Pakistan for more than 40 years. The major pharmaceutical therapeutical areas of the company are structured into 3 business units namely CardioMetabolic Care & Oncology, Nutrition, Infection & Fertility and NeuroCare. Besides these business units, there is another business unit, which is dealing with chemicals & diagnostics products & services known as Performance & Life Science Chemicals.
