Imagine having to go through all that trouble just to get your expedition approved. In contrast with long distance travels available today, early European expeditions really required more effort to push through. Today, two of the more important requirements to travel to countries outside of Asia are only a passport and a Visa. Applications for passports are relatively easier than applications for Visa, because aside from the usual document requirements such as a birth certificate, there are also interviews required to be issued a Visa. However, compared to the early expeditions, it is more convenient now, now that technology has provided easier means of transportation. Recruitments today, one may guess, would definitely be easier because there is a bigger population but less job opportunities. Maps are also available now, unlike before, where they were the ones who actually made their own maps, which evolved into what we have today. Other navigational tools are also made available today by advancement in different fields of science and math, and now we have little chance of getting lost.
